Discover the unexpected at the Singer Museum Laren! Singer Museum Laren consists of a museum, a villa, a sculpture garden and a theater. In the early 1900s, Anna and William Singer moved from the USA to Laren. They built a house called "De Wilde Zwanen" there. They would often receive their friends at their home, including many artists. Together, the couple accumulated an impressive collection of art. A museum and theater were added to the villa in 1956.
The museum stages temporary exhibitions. The art collection consists of work from the period 1880-1950 by artists like Anton Mauve, Jan Sluijters, Kees van Dongen, Leo Gestel and Bart van der Leck. In addition to paintings and works on paper, the collection also comprises a multitude of exquisite sculptures, including seven pieces by Auguste Rodin, which constitute the most extensive collection of Rodin in the Netherlands. The most notable piece of the collection is The Thinker.
The sculpture garden was conceptualized by Piet Oudolf, an internationally renowned landscape architect, and features contemporary sculptures that explore the interplay between culture and nature. Each artwork relates to nature in its own way.
